Your Travel Tips About Maldives

From the airport, how and what is the transportation to reach there?

Surprisingly, the airport is on an island, too. Upon reaching the airport, you need to take other modes of transport to reach your resort island. If your resort is not too far, you will be sitting on a small boat, aka dhoni which will cost you about US $1 to reach your destination (e.g. Dhoni to Capital Male will be US$1). If it is a little further, you may need to consider taking a speed boat which will cost you about US$75. If your resort island is really too far, you will need to take a water plane which will cost you about another US$350 or more.

What are the things I must bring?

Sun block and sun screens. It is good to bring insect repellents too as there might be sand flies around at some sections of the sands. They do regular fogging around so it is not so big of an issue yet.

Mobile reception and network?

Yup, mobile reception is good and accessible over there. You will have no problems calling your love ones over in Maldives.

Internet access?

The resorts provide internet access on a pay per use basis. Internet access is basically slow as they are not using broadband but dialed up service instead.

How many days should I be at there?

Depending on your interest, if you want to get away from the stresses of life, work and want to experience everyday waking up to the nature and sea, you may then want to stay in Maldives for a few weeks. However, if you enjoy shopping and exploring around, a 3 days 2 nights stay in Maldives may seem enough for you.

Can I take the seashells back?

Depending on the beach regulations, some of the seashells are protected and you are unable to take them back. In the wee early hours of the morning, the sea will wash up the sea shells onto the sands. If you want to see pretty seashells, be sure to wake up early in the morning as the locals will be there early in the morning to sweep away these pretty seashells to leave the sand clear. So in other words, be there earlier than them!

Anything that I have to take note when I’m there?

Remember to check the beach regulations. Make sure the resort have house reefs.

What is Hello! in their language?

Their language is Dhivehi

Hello – Assalaamu Alaikum
Yes – Aan
No – Noon

What is their currency?

You will be paying in USD in Maldives

Need a good waterproof camera?

You can buy a disposable waterproof camera which will cost around US$50. Do check the capabilities of the waterproof camera too. Some can go down to 5m deep only while some allow to 15m deep. However, if you are already intending to get a camera, you may like to get one which has waterproof capabilities so you can use your flash and get sharper pictures under the sea.

What are the things I must buy?

There are no must buys actually. Some of their souvenir shops even sell items that are imported from other countries yeah. Bringing back the photos and memories is all that matters!
